The first cycle, under the theme \u2018Lusophony in the World,\u2019 consisted of a series of six events with the following themes and speakers:<\/p>\n

” The Transnational Frontiers of Portuguese Culture: Prof. Adriano Jos\u00e9 Alves Moreira, Emeritus Professor at the Technical University of Lisbon; Portuguese as the Origin of Other Languages: Prof. Dulce Pereira, Faculty of Arts, University of Lisbon, and Prof. Isabel Tom\u00e1s, Faculty of Human and Social Sciences, New University of Lisbon; \u2018Portuguese as a Strategic Language in the Context of Globalisation: Policy Definition\u2019: Dr Guilherme de Oliveira Martins, President of the Court of Auditors and President of the National Culture Centre; \u2018Literatures of Portuguese Influence\u2019: Prof. Fernando Crist\u00f3v\u00e3o, President of the Association of Lusophone Cultures, Faculty of Arts, University of Lisbon, and Prof. Inoc\u00eancia Mata, Faculty of Arts, University of Lisbon; Prof. Carlos Ven\u00e2ncio, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Beira Interior \u2018The Portuguese Language in the CPLP – The Role of the IILP, International Institute of the Portuguese Language\u2019: Dr. Eduardo Mar\u00e7al Grilo, Administrator of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.<\/p>\n

\u2018Ten Years of CPLP: Assessment and Perspectives\u2019: Dr. Jorge Sampaio, former President of the Republic of Portugal.<\/p>\n

The main objective of these six events was to provoke reflection on the Portuguese language in its different contexts and variants, with a view to making this Lusophone matrix increasingly vibrant and profound.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/article>\n<\/section>\n\n
