During the second term, 160 Key Stage 3 students tested the digital game Cidadania em Jogo: TU decides!. The game is currently under development by Rato – ADCC, with pedagogical content developed by the Fundação Cidade de Lisboa, and reviewed by the Associação Renovar a Mouraria and the Democracy and Civil Society Programme team from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

The feedback from the experience was clearly positive: 78% of students reported being satisfied or very satisfied, giving the game an average score of 3.9 out of 5. Notably, the game’s narrative and visual environment received an average rating of 3.8 out of 5 (76%).

Among the aspects most appreciated by the students were:

  • Spaceship customisation (27.5% of mentions)
  • Learning about Human Rights and Discrimination (16.3%)
  • Questions and challenges (13.8%)
  • Teamwork and collaboration (12.5%)
  • Design and aesthetics (11.3%)

On the other hand, the main difficulties mentioned were technical internet connection issues and some instances of excessive text.

Teachers validate the digital game’s educational potential

The majority of teachers also rated the game very positively, highlighting the integration of digital technologies with citizenship themes, the active dynamics provided to students, and the game’s appealing design. Suggestions for improvement were also noted, such as making some questions more targeted and optimising the navigation flow.

The valuable contributions collected during this phase are being integrated into the refinement of the game and the supporting pedagogical manual. The Fundação Cidade de Lisboa would like to thank the commitment of the teachers and students who participated in this essential stage!
