The first cycle, under the theme ‘Lusophony in the World,’ consisted of a series of six events with the following themes and speakers:
” The Transnational Frontiers of Portuguese Culture: Prof. Adriano José Alves Moreira, Emeritus Professor at the Technical University of Lisbon; Portuguese as the Origin of Other Languages: Prof. Dulce Pereira, Faculty of Arts, University of Lisbon, and Prof. Isabel Tomás, Faculty of Human and Social Sciences, New University of Lisbon; ‘Portuguese as a Strategic Language in the Context of Globalisation: Policy Definition’: Dr Guilherme de Oliveira Martins, President of the Court of Auditors and President of the National Culture Centre; ‘Literatures of Portuguese Influence’: Prof. Fernando Cristóvão, President of the Association of Lusophone Cultures, Faculty of Arts, University of Lisbon, and Prof. Inocência Mata, Faculty of Arts, University of Lisbon; Prof. Carlos Venâncio, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Beira Interior ‘The Portuguese Language in the CPLP – The Role of the IILP, International Institute of the Portuguese Language’: Dr. Eduardo Marçal Grilo, Administrator of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
‘Ten Years of CPLP: Assessment and Perspectives’: Dr. Jorge Sampaio, former President of the Republic of Portugal.
The main objective of these six events was to provoke reflection on the Portuguese language in its different contexts and variants, with a view to making this Lusophone matrix increasingly vibrant and profound.
