In 2011, the ‘III Cycle of FCL Conferences’ was held, focusing on ‘Identity and Values’ at a time characterised by profound changes and challenges, both in our country and in Europe and the world. It brought together a series of four conferences dedicated to the themes: ‘Identity and Values,’ ‘Identity and Values in Justice,’ ‘Identity and Values in the Economy,’ and ‘Identity and Values in Portugal’s Relationship with the World.’

The first conference, on the theme of ‘Identity and Values,’ featured presentations by D. Carlos Moreira Azevedo, President of the Episcopal Commission for Social Pastoral Care, Auxiliary Bishop of Lisbon, Prof. António Barreto, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation, and was moderated by Dr. Maria Flor Pedroso, Journalist, Parliamentary Reporter and Political Editor at Antena 1.

The second conference – “Identity and Values in Justice” featured speakers Dr António Lobo Xavier, Master in Legal and Economic Sciences and specialist in Tax Law, partner at Morais Leitão, Galvão Teles, Soares da Silva & Associados, Prof. Paulo Mota Pinto, PhD in Legal and Civil Sciences, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra and Member of Parliament, and moderated by Dr Raquel Abecasis, journalist at Terça à Noite on Rádio Renascença.

The third conference, entitled ‘Identity and Values in the Economy,’ was attended by Dr. Guilherme d’Oliveira Martins, President of the Court of Auditors and President of the National Culture Centre, Eng. Belmiro de Azevedo, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sonae Group, and moderated by Dr. Nicolau Santos, Deputy Director of the Expresso newspaper. The last conference of this third cycle, ‘Identity and Values in Portugal’s Relationship with the World,’ featured the former President of the Republic, General António Ramalho Eanes, State Councillor and President of the Board of Trustees of ISCTE – Lisbon University Institute, Dr. João Salgueiro, Member of the Economic and Social Council and Member of the General Council of the University of Minho, and moderated by Dr. Francisco Sarsfield Cabral, Journalist.
