This conference addressed the challenges of water cycle management in urban areas, including sensitive issues such as water quality for domestic use, wastewater treatment and flood management. The various perspectives on the subject were presented by the speakers: Carlos Moedas, Mayor of Lisbon – Opening and the case of Lisbon; Prof. António Carmona Rodrigues (FCL) – Context of the topic; Ana Margarida Luís (AdP Valor) – The new Urban Waste Water Directive: perspectives and challenges; Felisbina
Quadrado (APA) – Water Management in the Context of Climate Change; Prof. José Saldanha Matos (IST) – Rainwater Management in the City – Problems, Challenges and Solutions: Grey, Green and Acupuncture; Prof. Vera Eiró (ERSAR) – Water quality challenges in the face of new legislation, new contaminants and digitalisation. The frequency with which problems such as droughts, floods and poor water quality have been occurring in various parts of the world requires special attention from the responsible authorities. The demographic growth of cities and metropolitan areas, particularly those located in coastal areas, has
also led to greater pressure on water use, while the search for sustainability and climate resilience continues.
