Co-organised with the Portuguese Association of Private Historical Archives, this round table took place on 21 October 2025, with the participation of João Paulo Oliveira e Costa, Leonor Freire Costa, Lourenço Pereira Coutinho and Sara Charneca as speakers, moderated by Maria Calado.

Throughout the session, various topics were analysed from different perspectives, ranging from the origins of the Port of Lisbon to the present day. Its role as a trading hub in the economy of the Portuguese Empire was highlighted, as well as its function as a port of entry and exit for large ships carrying goods to other countries in Europe and the Atlantic region.

The Round Table ended with a particularly enriching debate on the unavoidable history and strategic importance of the Port of Lisbon for the development of the city.
