Between 14 and 17 July 2025, the educational community of the Patrício Prazeres School Group took part in an intensive week of training as part of the Learning Recovery Plan for the 2024/2025 school year. The initiative, promoted in partnership with the City of Lisbon Foundation and the Prof. João Soares Training Centre, involved more than 80 participants, including educators, teachers and operational assistants, in five short training courses focused on citizenship, pedagogical communication and intercultural mediation.

Training operational assistants in managing cultural diversity in schools

The week began with the workshop ‘Intercultural Mediation and Conflict Management – outside the classroom’, held on 14 July at the EB Rosa Lobato Faria school in the morning and the EB Professor Oliveira Marques school in the afternoon. With a total of 25 operational assistants attending the two classes, this initiative aimed to provide participants with practical strategies for dealing with diversity and preventing conflicts in school environments. The average rating from participants was 4.8 (EB Rosa Lobato Faria) and 4.5 (EB Professor Oliveira Marques) on a scale of 1 to 5, revealing strong recognition of the relevance of the content and the applicability of the methodologies.

Teachers and technicians explore strategies for a more intercultural and equitable education

On 15 July, ACD 1 ‘Citizenship and Interculturality – from theory to practice’ took place, with 19 teachers and senior technicians. The training addressed key concepts of the National Strategy for Citizenship Education (ENEC), strategies for valuing cultural diversity and pedagogical practices that promote intercultural dialogue. Participants gave the session an average rating of 4.8, highlighting the support and guidance provided by the trainers.

ACD 2 ‘Communication and Learning – managing diverse classrooms’, held on 16 July, brought together 21 teachers and senior technicians. During six hours of training, effective communication tools with migrant students were explored, as well as engagement strategies that promote inclusion and equity in multicultural contexts. This action received the highest rating of the week, with an average of 4.9 on a 5-point scale, demonstrating the strong impact of the topic on the participants’ teaching practice.
