About the Mediation and Intercultural Dialogue Erasmus+ Course

In an ever-globalizing world, the ability to mediate intercultural encounters and promote inclusivity is a vital skill for educators. Unlocking the Power of Intercultural Mediation: What to Expect

Participants in this dynamic course will embark on a 5-day journey of discovery and growth, gaining essential knowledge and skills in intercultural mediation. Here’s a glimpse of what you can expect:

Day 1: Mediation and Intercultural Dialogue – what is it?

  • Identify and deconstruct stereotypes + contextualize
  • Reflect on diversity in each context/country + systematise
  • Identify and analise country hosting practices
  • External activity – experience Intercultural Lisbon

Day 2: Who does intercultural mediation?

  • Reflecting on the profile of key competences
  • Role-play to deconstruct prejudices and work on competences
  • Reflect on the development plan – packing the suitcase

Day 3: How do you do intercultural mediation?

  • Identify emerging cultural conflicts – examples from each country
  • Identify conflict-averting intercultural competences
  • Experience the process of intercultural mediation – role-play
  • Visit – Intercultural Lisbon

Day 4: Managing diversity in intervention settings – what challenges?

  • Intercultural relations: experiences and professional contexts
  • Welcoming and managing diversity

Day 5: Emotional management in mediation processes – what now?

  • Identifying emotions in intercultural mediation processes – role-play
  • Recognizing and experimenting with emotion regulation strategies
  • Positive intercultural environments
  • Certificates and final evaluation

Active Training Methodologies for Multicultural Classroom Strategies

Throughout the course, participants will engage in practical group work, short presentations on theoretical aspects, narrations, group dynamics, music, images, videos, and sharing pedagogical resources and practical cases. Guided cultural visits and visual facilitation will enhance the learning experience.

Almudena Ferro

Master's degree in Social Work, Welfare State, and Social Intervention Methodologies, with over nine years of professional experience in the field of community social intervention, in Portugal and Spain. Interested in social change projects, she has mainly worked in the areas of education, inclusion, human rights, children and youth, volunteering, and migration, as a technician and coordinator of social projects. As a certified trainer, she has created and implemented training programs aimed at volunteer networks, teachers, educators, and youth workers in the fields of interculturality, inclusion, and diversity management in educational contexts, both nationally and internationally.

Rute Machado

Master's degree in Educational Sciences, specializing in Educational Administration, and a bachelor's degree in Educational Psychology. Full member of the Portuguese Psychologists Association. Certified and accredited trainer for teacher training. She has experience since 2005 in community intervention, particularly in school settings, focusing on the development of personal, social, academic, and civic awareness programs for children and young people. Developed and implemented training programs for teachers, social workers, and volunteers, promoting academic success and education for development and global citizenship. Believes in positive change through respect and equality for all.

Camila Brito
Erasmus KA1 courses

Camila Brito

Project technician and intercultural mediator, currently pursuing a Master's degree in International Relations, she has experience in youth projects at both national and international levels. She worked as a technician in the FOCO Project, conducting group sessions with young people in educational settings, aiming to promote self-awareness and develop soft skills among vulnerable youth, thus preventing school dropout and other risky behaviors, and enhancing academic success. She also facilitated the Erasmus+ Tools for YOU*! project alongside the LCF team and the Lisbon Youth Center. Additionally, she has experience in organizing Portuguese and literacy courses, as well as informal conversation groups for migrant and refugee populations.
