Dr. José António Barreiros drew on his work O Piloto de Casablanca (The Pilot of Casablanca) to focus on the figure of José Cabral, Navy Commander and naval aviator, daring acrobat of the skies, stationed in Macau, who returned to Lisbon to later join commercial aviation. He served Aero Portuguesa, the only European company authorised to fly the Lisbon-Tangier-Casablanca route during World War II. José Cabral carried out risky and clandestine missions and, for his contribution to
the Allied victory, received high honours, including the US Legion of Merit. In conclusion, the author pointed out that the plane in the final scene of the film Casablanca could have been his.
