Learn to communicate effectively with children, young people and adults from different cultures and backgrounds in our Intercultural Communication Course: develop skills to manage diversity in Lisbon. This Erasmus+ KA1 course has been designed for teachers, trainers and professionals working with migrants and in diverse contexts. It provides practical tools to improve communication, avoid misunderstandings and promote positive intercultural relationships.

Detailed Intercultural Communication Course Programme (5 Days)
Day 1: Intercultural Communication – what is it?
Day 2: Key Competences for Communication – who is capable?
- Intercultural competence profiles
- Role-play to identify communication barriers
- Testing tools for effective communication
- Intercultural snack – taste the diversity
Day 3: Promoting Dialogue and Communication – how do we do it?
- Communication dynamics, trust and engagement
- Strategies to improve intercultural dialogue
- Practical exercises
- Pedagogical visit – Discover Lisbon through the voice of a migrant
Day 4: Communicating in Diverse Educational Contexts – challenges and tools
- Communication challenges with migrant communities
- Intercultural welcoming strategies
- Inclusive communication practices
Day 5: Intercultural Dialogue and Emotional Management – what strengths do I have?
- Identifying and managing emotions in intercultural interactions
- Activities to work on emotional awareness
- Techniques for empathetic communication
- Positive messages in a bottle

This profile is ideal for those working in primary and secondary schools, adult education and training, vocational education, migrant reception and integration institutions, civil society organisations, and inclusive cultural spaces such as libraries, museums, and similar contexts.

Almudena Ferro
Master's degree in Social Work, Welfare State, and Social Intervention Methodologies, with over nine years of professional experience in the field of community social intervention, in Portugal and Spain. Interested in social change projects, she has mainly worked in the areas of education, inclusion, human rights, children and youth, volunteering, and migration, as a technician and coordinator of social projects. As a certified trainer, she has created and implemented training programs aimed at volunteer networks, teachers, educators, and youth workers in the fields of interculturality, inclusion, and diversity management in educational contexts, both nationally and internationally.
Rute Machado
Master's degree in Educational Sciences, specializing in Educational Administration, and a bachelor's degree in Educational Psychology. Full member of the Portuguese Psychologists Association. Certified and accredited trainer for teacher training. She has experience since 2005 in community intervention, particularly in school settings, focusing on the development of personal, social, academic, and civic awareness programs for children and young people. Developed and implemented training programs for teachers, social workers, and volunteers, promoting academic success and education for development and global citizenship. Believes in positive change through respect and equality for all.
Camila Brito
Project technician and intercultural mediator, currently pursuing a Master's degree in International Relations, she has experience in youth projects at both national and international levels. She worked as a technician in the FOCO Project, conducting group sessions with young people in educational settings, aiming to promote self-awareness and develop soft skills among vulnerable youth, thus preventing school dropout and other risky behaviors, and enhancing academic success. She also facilitated the Erasmus+ Tools for YOU*! project alongside the LCF team and the Lisbon Youth Center. Additionally, she has experience in organizing Portuguese and literacy courses, as well as informal conversation groups for migrant and refugee populations.
